There are a lot of animals that have leucism. So far we’ve seen penguins, kangaroos, reindeers. The next one on the list is these adorable white lions. Their rare appearance is caused by leucism, a genetic condition that strips the pigment from their fur. There are only 13 white lions living in the wild, while 100 of them are in captivity.
The pictures you’re about to see below are from the baby lions that have just been welcomed at a zoo in east China. Now, after a year of being born, they’re being prepared to meet the public on December 26th. The 4 lions were born on November 6 at Nantong Forest Safari Park in Jiangsu. Although they’re so rare, they aren’t considered to be endangered species, therefore there isn’t a law to protect these animals.

“The White Lions are listed as Panthera leo, which is classified as ‘Vulnerable,’ meaning they may become threatened with extinction in the future unless trade is closely controlled,” the team of the Global White Lion Protection Trust writes on their website. “The White Lion gene needs to be researched, understood, and protected, as a matter of urgency.”
Despite that fact, we should try everything possible to save and protect these adorable animals that add diversity to our fauna.
