The Jardin des Plantes is a beautiful botanical garden which is found in Nantes, Western France. Aside from its exquisite flora collection, it also features vast greenhouses, lovely parks, stunning statues, and other extraordinary facilities. Each year, the garden holds several exhibits to showcase the works of talented artists. In particular, it has a collection of majestic yet adorable topiary sculptures created by French artist Claude Ponti. It features a larger-than-life baby bird whose relaxed pose looks like it’s in the middle of a nap. Such sculptures are titled Poussin endormi (Sleepy Chick) and thus feature shrubs shaped like huge baby birds.
Above all, the delightful work showcases Ponti’s great skill in crafting a topiary. To illustrate, he makes evenly textured, rounded forms that are punctuated with metal details like long, thin legs and a bright yellow beak. In addition, there are even tiny eyelashes that dot the bird’s closed eyes!
Therefore, scroll down and take a look at the pictures of those sleeping baby birds!
