“I’ve started drawing comics as a kid, and since then I’ve always wanted to be a comic artist. As it’s a bit complicated to make a living out of it as a job, I first wanted to become an animator in cartoons, but didn’t manage to be accepted in the school I was aiming, so I finally studied graphic design. After these studies, I started a career in advertising as an Art Director, where I learnt how to tell stories as briefly as possible. After a few years, in a time I got a little bored in my job, I started drawing again at lunch time, that’s when I really got back into comics. I started share some little comic strips in 4 frames on social media, and I found that many people liked them, so I continued. After about a year doing this, a publisher “Editions Lapin” contacted me, and that’s how I got my first book out, I’m currently working on a second one,” said the artist for Earthwonders.

Moreover, Remi shared some information about the source of his inspiration. “I really got inspired by artist Joan Cornella, when I discovered his work that really helped to get me back to the drawing board. For ideas, I’d say everyday situations are the best inspiration : things that everyone knows or can relate to, I think this is where the best ideas can come from, and from an everyday situation, you just need to add a little something that’s out of place to transform a boring scene into something surprising and funny.”

His humor is quite something else. The artist shared a little bit what goes on behind the scenes.
“Everyday I write some everyday situations on the notepad in my phone. When I’m looking for a new idea, I come back to these notes, and see if any of the scenes inspire me. That doesn’t always work, when it does it’s great but otherwise I keep on thinking. Some other times an idea will just pop in my head, just like that, or by looking at something or talking to someone. It can be pretty challenging to find a good idea, and sometimes I don’t find any for a while. Once I have an idea I generally get to draw it right away.
First as a little storyboard. The hard thing there is to get it to work in 4 frames and without words. Finally, when I’m happy with my drawing, I generally share it with some close friends, first to see if they get it, and also to see if there is anything that could be improved. I often change a few details on my comic after that, and sometimes I even start it again from scratch, or throw the idea away if no one but me gets it ! I think I’m pretty demanding with myself, I even rework some of my comics after I publish them on social media,” added the artist.
