People say the funniest things when they think no one is listening. Particularly, “Things That I Hear” is a collection of illustrated conversations. Moreover, it reveals moments of awkward public intimacy, biting self-awareness, and the discomforts of luxury. Avner Geller is the creator of such funny illustrations of overheard conversations. And in this case, those illustrations represent the ridiculousness of modern life.
The idea to start the series came to the artist when he was shopping and noticed a young woman. In particular, she was looking at her phone, turned to her friend and said: “He wants to go to Bali. But I say Fiji!” Thus, this absurd situation made him laugh. And soon, he started to notice all the weird cases, turning them into funny illustrations.
The artist’s drawings are colorful, bold, and slightly retro in style. He claims that the illustrations portray our co-workers, friends, and neighbors. And most importantly, they show us how we talk and act when no one is listening.
