Aimee -The Stray Cat that Travels Around America With Her New Family

Lee Hodges, 33, and Willow Rolfe, 29, are a young British couple, who have embarked into an adventure in North America with their VW van. Both of them were teachers, who decided to leave their jobs, sell everything only to fulfill their long life dream of traveling. They began their road trip across North America in August 2019. Two months into their journey, while in Washington, DC, they decided to grow their family by adopting a stray cat.

The couple left two cats behind, and they felt like they needed to rescue an animal, to company them in their journey.  They rescued two cats, the first one was a small black one they named Molly, but unfortunately she passed away shortly after. The other companion was called Aimee, and she is the reason what makes this story special.

Aimee was the perfect new member, who was well trained to company them wherever they go. Aimee is most likely a better explorer than most people as by now, she has visited 15 states in the USA and two countries, which makes her a pretty worldly pet.

Their adventure didn’t go as smoothly as they thought. During the trip they came across some rough turns. Aimee got attacked by a pack of dogs that left her paw broken. But this didn’t make the couple move on without their cat. They waited until she got back on her feet and got the right medication, so they could continue the trip.

The other bumpy hit was he pandemic. Since the Coronavirus hit, Willow and Lee wanted to return back to the UK, but they couldn’t leave their newly adopted cat behind. They were stuck in Mexico where the pandemic had brought the place to a standstill, where all the national parks, beaches and other tourist attractions were closed. Willow and Lee, did everything in their power to help the cat get the right care also to isolate without exceeding their daily budged of £17.50.

The adventurous couple had been planning this trip since 2015, when they bought an old VW to restore. Conveniently, Willow was working as a motor vehicle lecturer at the mechanical college and spent 2 years fixing it. Willow and Lee, like most great adventurers, quit their jobs, rented out their home, and embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime road trip through North America.

Unfortunately, just recently, as the trio decided to make their way home across the Atlantic to the UK, their trusty VW camper van broke down, leaving them stranded in Mexico, where they have been staying since Aimee got injured. They have been sharing their trip in social media, and the internet is closely following the trip of the couple, as they are doubtful of trying to make to it to a Mexican freight port and prefer to set sail from the US, so for now, they are just waiting to get their VW van back on the road.

All we know for sure is that Aimee is the most adventurous cat we’ve seen on the internet, who has traveled from place to place for over two years.
