Non-Americans, but especially Americans, know that a trip to the doctor might cost a fortune and make one leave with empty pockets or serious debt. Healthcare and to underline – easy access to healthcare – if not free, should be affordable for everyone. Yet, it’s far from that.
Recently a TikToker, Delia O’Malley, posted a now-viral video on TikTok, which amassed over 3.2M views and pointed to the flawed American health care system. In the video (which you can watch here), she shared her way out of paying the quoted price of over $3000 for a root canal in the U.S. She decided to go to Turkey and get her root canal fixed for $160 instead. Overall, the journey cost her $1167 (including hotel, flights, and dental bills), almost three times less than what she was quoted back home.
Scroll below for some picture snippets from the TikTok and see people’s opinions about the situation. What do you reckon? Do you think flying abroad to get specific medical procedures done is a new solution?
