1. Tile repairs are a breeze with a jar of peanut butter! You will get a better bond with crunchy, but sometimes you’re at the mercy of what the customer has in the cupboard! Wipe it up with some of their bread, and you got lunch when you’re done! If they don’t have any crunchy, mix in a little jam as a bonding additive.

2. Winter is around the corner, and there is nothing cozier than curling up next to your brand new fireplace with a warm beverage in hand! I sold them on the upgraded “gas” model; this way they will be able to crank up the heat, and soothe that bunion pain with the magical healing benefits that heat provides.

3. New sink install, unlike most contractors I stand by my 2 year no leak guarantee!

4. Metal on metal is a recipe for corrosion! That’s why I always block my striker plate out to create the social distance that metal requires! The airflow created allows the latch to stay dry from constant contact with the plate!

6. No one likes climbing stairs, that’s why I always frame them out with a 12” rise ; it gets you to the top that much faster, so you can focus on the things that matter most.

7. I had a customer want to upgrade to a comfort height toilet! I built this platform instead of buying the toilet. I used matching flooring so it blends… I got paid and she thinks she got a new toilet! Everybody wins!

8. This shed had a hole in the back corner, and was taking in water! I decided to add a dormer. This not only solves the water issues, but it adds tons of natural light. Added aesthetics is just a bonus!

9. Safety is my number one concern, I couldn’t sleep at night knowing a cover plate fell off; exposing the dangerous electrical terminals! I always opt for the 2” drywall screw to ensure a good solid connection! If you’re looking for extra grab, try the coarse threads instead of the fine threads!

10. I struggled a bit on this one! I was deciding whether to use a deck screw to blend into the drawer face, or use a metal screw to match the handle! I went with the pan head metal screw as I figured it had better hold, and a nice border detail would tie this kitchen together! I’ve been doing repairs like this for years, and I swear I am only getting better.

11. I increased the size of this return air grille because I felt the existing grille was undersized! Sometimes you just need to return a little extra air to the furnace! Only way to keep it working properly!

12. You have to be careful when cutting into structure. Always leave an inch at the bottom of the joist, this way it will retain its structure! By running this pipe through it, and spray foaming it altogether the joist is stronger than when I started; stronger than wood itself!

13. I always go the extra mile to avoid future call backs, not that I’d answer them anyway. Here i added a blob of adhesive into the mortise and let it ooze out after the hinge was applied. The more surface area the glue reached the stronger the connection.

14. Am I the only craftsman that gets irritated when so called “contractors” put handles on backwards? I mean 90% of humans are right handed so why are we putting handles on geared to left handed humans! I always handle my customers needs which keeps me booking a week in advance with repeat customers!

15. Luxury at its finest. I added this soap shelf complimentary to the customer because we all know what happens when you drop the soap in the shower! You gotta bend over and pick it up, and nobody is having a good time doing that! I sometimes wonder if all these extra freebies I do are gonna crush my bottom line one day, my rates are so high though so I should be good!

16. Sometimes the solution to a problem is as simple as pulling out a sharpie! Regardless of how simple the job is, at the end of the day my rates are non-negotiable!

18. Ever been walking down the stairs and found out that your phone needed a charge!? I have come up with the solution! The best part is there is a built in seat while you wait for your phone to finish charging. Comfort and convenience are key in this business! Don’t feel like waiting? You can safely tuck the cord and phone tight up against the kick board, and it will be safe and out of the way!

19. Turning a 1.5 bath home into a 2.5 bath is surprising easy. I’m surprised more humans don’t do it! It immediately increases the value of the home…. not to mention the cost savings on water; I can be dropping a bomb simultaneously as my friend yet it’s only gonna take 6L to send them home!

20. If my customer tells me they’re constipated and they spend countless hours on the John. I always give them the free comfort seat upgrade. They really appreciate it and always bring me back for additional work. That’s why I am in this business!
