20 Hilarious Times People Misheard Something And Ended Up In An Awkward Situation

English is considered the ‘global language’ because it’s either the official or common second language in many countries. Yet, it’s full of interesting quirks that make it a complex language to learn. You can be a native English speaker yet put yourself in such an awkward situation where you wish you could bury one’s head in the sand. And let’s not even start with the American vs. British English. It’s a whole different story.

In English, some words are spelled the same yet pronounced differently. Others might sound identical but have wholly unrelated meanings. And the list doesn’t stop here, but we don’t have the entire day. With so many intricacies, miscommunication is simply inevitable.

And thanks to God for the people who can have a laugh at themselves and are willing to share their hilarious misunderstandings with people online. Twitter user @im_all_id started a hilarious trend by exposing her own slip-up. Thousands of people joined the thread and shared comic mishaps from their own lives. Take a look at the best tweets!

Times Historians Had No Idea What Something Was And Women Stepped In And Told Them

In class, I learned that when I don’t understand something, someone else probably does. It’s more useful to learn someone’s perspective in a field than to force your perspective and fail miserably.

That’s the moral lesson to be learned in this viral Twitter thread by Gennifer Hutchison. For her, there are things that male historians and anthropologists get wrong because they usually don’t involve women’s perspectives in their research.
