We all know that dogs are our best friends, they lounge with us, play with us, and jump for joy when we dig out their leash. All-in-all, many of us couldn’t imagine life without them. The thought of our precious dog going missing is unbearable, not knowing where they are, if they’re okay, or if they’ll ever find their way back home is unthinkable. But this one clever dog has captured the hearts of the internet this week for knowing exactly what to do after going missing.
Last week, the officers at the Odessa Police Department in Texas got an unexpected visitor – a polite doggo named Chico, who gently put his paws onto the front desk to let them know about his issue. Chico’s appearance there gave the thought that there was a dog missing, or a human, as he most likely thought to himself.
Sergeant Rusty Martin was among the officers who received Chico and said the dog didn’t seem distressed about his lost status at all, it was as if he just went out for a stroll through the neighborhood and decided to pay the kind officers a visit to brighten up their day.
And the officers made sure to make his day at better in return. They said he received “lots of love and attention”. Sergeant Martin also said: “We were all excited to have him in the building. We had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved him.”
When playtime was over, it was time to make sure that Chico would return to his rightful owners. But it wasn’t that easy as it may sound, Chico’s ID had fallen off from his collar. That’s why animal control was dispatched to check for a microchip.
Chico felt like his time at the PD was done and quickly snuck out before animal control arrived. And fortunately, he headed straight back to his family who reported him back the next day. Sergeant Martin said: ”He ran out just as quick as he came in. The owner responded the next day (to say that) it was his dog and he had returned home. He lives about a mile from the station.”
