Photographer Mark Cowman is the man who witnessed one of the rarest sights while exploring outdoors. He was traveling down the Amazon, studying reptile and amphibian diversity with the Herpetology Division at the University of Michigan. What seemed like an ordinary day exploring, ended up surprising the photographer, which captured the shot of a lifetime.
This shot consists of a caiman with an adorable crown of colorful butterflies on its head. This is not something that we get to see on daily basis. Moreover, one might think of the reason behind this occurrence. As it turns out, biologically butterflies need salt to survive. They get that here from the minerals that gather on the caiman’s skin. On the other hand, the caiman doesn’t benefit anything from this relationship.
However, the calm expression in which the photographer managed to capture him, shows that he doesn’t mind this attention.
