A brutal winter storm has not only dumped snow and sent temperatures plunging, it has frozen one of North America’s top tourist spots. The winter storm that has blanketed the Midwest in snow and turned the Northeast into a deep freezer has now brought the falls’ rushing waters to a halt in places.
People visiting Niagara Falls are sharing pictures of the attraction frozen by the cold temperatures on social media.
Snow and ice has built up around the iconic waterfall, creating stunning scenes for visitors.
Contributing to the icy vista was a weather system moving over North America from west to east, which the US National Weather Service said was strengthened by Arctic air from Canada.
Visitor Emma Grafham told CNN the attraction reminded her of the movie Frozen. “There was even this set of stairs that were placed just outside the look-on spot and they had so much ice on them, it looked like Elsa had just cast her arm out and summoned up some stairs like she does in the movie,” Grafham said to CNN.
Photographers are flocking to Niagara Falls after an icy storm system left the region looking like a scene out of the Disney movie Frozen.
