Lion Cub’s Legs Were Broken So He Wouldn’t Escape From Tourists Who Want To Take Pics. Thankfully, He Got Rescued And Treated

A photographer deliberately broke a lion cub’s hind legs so it could not run away from tourists taking selfies with it on Russian beaches. Russian President Vladimir Putin was so shocked he personally ordered a criminal investigation into the cruelty faced by the helpless cub, called Simba.

A distressing video shows the poor animal before surgery, and afterward as he slowly and painfully learns to walk again. The cub was just a few weeks old when it was taken from his mother and made to pose for pictures with tourists.

After exploiting the lion last summer, the performing lion’s legs were broken as it got older so the animal could not run away. Reports say it became ill and was ‘tortured and beaten’ by its minders, badly injuring his spine and leaving him on the point of death.

The animal was dumped, hardly able to move, tethered in a dirty, cold barn in the Russian region of Dagestan. ‘He was practically not fed, and for some reason in the frost water was constantly poured over him,’ said Yulia Ageeva, who led a rescue mission.

The person that saved Simba is named Karen Dallakyan, a vet in Russia. ‘This was a real hell.’ Rescuers saved Simba from his nightmare and the lion was flown to specialist vet Karen Dallakyan, who said the beast had suffered ‘an ocean of pain from humans’.

Karen helps hundreds of animals escape from awful situations. He helps them get back to health with food, shelter, and, most importantly, the love they deserve. Karen takes care of all kinds of animals like tigers, hedgehogs, snakes, and birds. Please go to his Instagram account and show him some love.

He said: ‘Evil photographers break bones like this so that wild predators cannot escape and behave calmly for pictures [with tourists].’ Mr. Dallakyan has operated on Simba and the cub is now able to walk again even though the animal is permanently deformed.

It also suffered pressure sores, intestinal obstructions, and atrophy of the muscles of the hind limbs.

Mr. Dallakyan told Mr. Putin about the scandal in a lockdown video conference with ecologists, stressing: ‘We do not see any criminal case opened.’

The Russian president said: ‘Thank you, I wrote down what you said.’ The Kremlin leader promised to get law enforcement to act against the animal torturer and any associates. Mr. Dallakyan, from Chelyabinsk, said a criminal investigation is now underway.

Thousands of animals experience cruelty all over the world. Many awful people torture them to gain popularity and money. When going to see an animal, always keep their safety and livelihood in mind—animals are not entertainment, but living beings that feel pain just like the rest of us. Please consider donating to institutions that help animals in need and if you see an animal being mistreated, speak up and don’t let them suffer.
