To take good pictures of wildlife it usually requires a great skill set. You always have to know the right place and time when it comes to taking the perfect shot, and as we know that’s something quite hard to plan for. Especially when it comes to wildlife there are some precautions you need to take, to make sure you’re safe and that the animal will be comfortable having you and your camera around.
Mike Mayou accidentally found this perfect moment while flying his drone over the St. Louis River in Minnesota. His plan was to catch a nice sunset picture, but since the sun didn’t end up making an appearance that day, he just went exploring around a little bit before finishing his adventure.
“After flying a drone over to investigate, I discovered that there were three bobcats venturing together! It was quite a breathtaking experience, and I decided to turn my camera on while I was around them,”- said the photographer. He spent a few minutes taking pictures of the animals and then left to not disturb them any further.
Few humans ever see a bobcat in the wild, so this was an extraordinary moment.
This unplanned image wouldn’t have been possible without his drone. “It’s quite rare for humans to see bobcats in the wild, but the drone, which is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, allowed me to capture these animals in a unique way,” Mayou says.
When asked if he would do it again, he said that he wouldn’t have gotten as close to the animals as he did. He states that if the behavior of the animal changes, the drone is too close.
Here’s a video of the bobcats from that day:
