This Magical Forest in Belgium is All Carpeted With Bluebell Flowers

By looking at the following photos, you may find it hard to believe that such a fairytale-like forest even exists. These tall, thin trees, skinny winding trail, and lush blue flowers that extend as far as your eyes can see give the area a whimsical feel.

It’s simply magical.

These beautiful photos by Kilian Schönberger show off the mystical forest called Hallerbos (or Halle Forest in Dutch), and it’s located in Belgium. The reason this forest looks like it’s been lifted right out of a fairytale is its dense carpet of blue flowers, called Bluebell. These flowers thrive and bloom in spring and early summer around April to May, creating a magical purple carpet beneath the trees. Foggy weather is especially good for photographers, giving the woods a mysterious and ghostly atmosphere.

The wooded area covers 1360 acres of the European country, mainly in the municipality of Halle in Flemish Brabant, but a small portion of the forest is also found in Walloon Brabant before it was its own forest, Hallerbos was part of the Sonian Forrest, which stretches over southern Brussels and boasts the title of Europe’s largest beech forest.
