When taking pictures, perspective is everything. Different angles can make things look completely different from what they actually are. Portuguese art Director Hugo Suissas, based in Germany bring exactly that surreal and magical perspective and angle in his photographs. He turns simple landscapes and things into mind-bending props.
Earthwonders reached out to him to ask him more about his work. “What inspires me in photography is knowing that one image has the power to impact and helping to solve serious problems in the world. I entered the photography world around 9 years ago and what I like the most in photography is when I have a novel idea that I haven’t seen anywhere else. What I like the least is when copycats try to copy my work, showing a great deal of lack of respect for others and for the artist community,” said the artist. “My head doesn’t know what the word “stop” means, and since the world never stops, I would say that it’s a great combination. I am a simple guy, I like simplicity and a simple life. I am what you may call an obsessive artist, in the sense that I won’t stop until I materialize in a photo what it’s in my head. It’s a great deal of hard work.”
The artist shared with us his daily working process: “Everyday I sit on my desk with a white paper and pen and I exercise my brain, trying to come up with meaningful ideas and interesting projects. What made me get here is my almost uncontrollable desire to create things that haven’t been done before on this planet, or any other in the galaxy. This is what gets me going.”
Truth be told, not a lot of people have the ability to see things in this perspective. Hugo tells us that he’s been playing with magic ever since he was a kid. And for him, magic and perspective have so much in common in the sense that they both create an illusion. ” I have started to use perspective in my photos, when I’ve realized that it was a great technique to convey an idea and get a reaction from the public. I believe that it was my “magic” childhood that inspired me to do what I do today,” shared the artist for Earthwonders.
Hugo also shared his latest project relating to the Corona virus called Vaccine Towers, which is going viral at the moment. “This project is a worldwide awareness campaign on the Covid vaccination with the hope that we can get rid of this virus as soon as possible. We’re reaching the peak of the vaccine drive against Corona Virus. From New York to Berlin, this project reminds people we can only rise once again, if they’re up for getting vaccinated.”
