There’s something special about delving into the past and reconciling the long-forgotten memories captured in a photograph. It’s mesmerizing to look back at the old pictures when the times were different, yet, the people pictured remained the same. Just the age and time left traces on the skin.
Almost all photos are digitalized and stored in virtual ‘clouds in today’s age.’ It’s now rare to have a photograph printed out. Yet, photos age and fade. For example, photos from the 1950s tend to turn red over time, while pictures from the 1970s gain a slightly yellow tint. This process is called photo-degradation, suggesting that the colors in the photo tend to ‘fade’ due to exposure to sunlight or UV rays.
Yet, the easiest way to preserve such old photos is to digitalize them. Turning printed photographs into digital helps capture the original colors and texture and enables photo-sharing. Sure, some pictures of great historical importance can be (and are) exhibited in museums and art galleries, but this significantly limits the number of people who can see them.
Luckily, some individuals took their time to dig up, perhaps digitize old photos themselves, for all ‘lovers of the past’ to see. Instagram account ‘Vintage Daily‘ is ‘dedicated to the past.’ There you can find unique images from the past that capture the essence of that time.
