“They Only Tipped Me $20”: Struggling Pizza Hut Delivery Driver Gets A $20 Tip On A $938 Order, Sparks Heated Discussion

Americans do three things that always baffle foreigners. The first one, they write the month before the date. The second one, they still use the imperial system of measurements. And lastly, they tip oftentimes mandatorily.

And the third one’s the reason why the Reddit user ShaolinJohn went to the Anti Work subreddit to tell his experiences with a Pizza Hut delivery person. According to him, the pizza delivery person was about to bring in a $938 worth of pizza order but only received a $20 tip.

In the United States, most minimum wage earners don’t earn enough to make a living. Most of the earnings they receive depend on tips which is not helpful for the worker and the customer. The American tipping culture puts the pressure to the customer to pay what the company lacks from its staff’s pay.

The delivery person was ecstatic to deliver a $938 worth of pizza, but the joy didn’t last too long as she received only $20 as a tip, a value minuscule to the value of the order

The OP of the post decided to help her by giving her an additional $50

In the end, the user addressed the need for a change in how the workers are paid in America. Tipping would only seem like it’s the company’s way of getting away from underpaying its staff

Throughout the months, we’ve known some people who had conflicts with their higher-ups for not respecting their work schedules. For example, we met this man who wasn’t allowed to leave early even though there was no more work, so he saw to it that he wouldn’t work anymore after his time. We have also known this guy who wasn’t let go even after his work hours.

Today, we’ll end these kinds of stories on a positive note. In a TikTok video by Alec (@handle), he retold his story where he observed his boss leaving at 5 pm on the dot. He then discovered him doing some work in his car. When he asked him why he did his matters in the car and not in his office, the boss responded that he wanted his employees to appreciate their work schedules by making them comfortable at leaving at 5 pm as well.
