When we get invited to an event, there’s always this pressure of responding yes because responding otherwise might make the inviter feel bad about you. Take, for example, this recent story from Reddit’s Am I The A-Hole community. In the post, the OP was invited to a wedding. However, the wedding falls on a Sunday, and she would not be able to attend because she would have work the next day. So she responded no, and it was fine for the inviter (her niece).
If you thought that would be the end of it, you’re mistaken. Yes, her niece told her she was fine with OP’s decision to not attend. However, if it was fine for her, it wasn’t for OP. She criticized her for having the wedding on a Sunday. In her defense, her niece did not consider that a lot of people would not be able to attend on that day. This escalated into a heated argument and OP is now asking if what she did was wrong.

It seems that the audience did not join the OP’s side this time. For them, OP should just mind her own business
